Izzy! Talk about being in the right place at the right time! Taken six miles off the Coast of Dominica and 40 ft deep. This possibly pelagic but unknown species has been tentatively identified as Izzy Sarcastici. Unfortunately there have been no confirmed sightings since this one. However there have been unconfirmed reports of this species harassing cruise ships off the coast of Key West. Those of us who consider him a friend can doubly appreciate this moment of pure serenity and peace, after all one can only hold in all that hot air for so long. Despite the fact that he worked for the competition we will miss him in Dominica, good luck to him, Liz and Dylan.

This was taken about 100 yds off shore from our Gallette cottage. This humpback appeared in the middle of one of our kayaking trips and just sat on the surface allowing the kayakers to approach quietly. I had just returned from the days dive with about 8 divers and we all jumped back on the boat, (after I grabbed the camera!) and visited the whale. I went in the water and quietly approached almost to within touching distance, at this point I became worried that the whale was injured as it hardly even seemed to realize I was there. There were no visible signs of injury however and after hanging around all day the whale left the coastline. It was such a magical moment I had a hard time remembering to take photographs. But moments like this in life have to be appreciated through the minds eye first and the lens eye second. Please do not think we condone swimming with whales, this whale approached us and even swam directly towards me while we were swimming at about 50' deep. I did not in any way harass this whale. Dominica follows all I.F.A.W. regulations for whale watching. Humpback

Frogfish

Would any photograph album be complete without a photo of the sleek and elegant frogfish?

Get the idea that I like these creatures?

This photo is of a common subject that we see every day, and yet I love the feel of motion and flow. It is an example of painting with light that exemplifies underwater photography. My next photo album might be an attempt to show that it does not take the worlds best dive site to get great photos. I am thinking of diving right in front of our dive shop and seeing what I can get to prove this point. I welcome any feedback, comments or ideas for this series of photo albums. Feather Dusters
